This region stretches from the Pacific coast and its Coast Mountains, through the Interior Plateau (where most of its population is located), to the Rocky Mountains. Early settlers were drawn to this region because of a short-lived gold rush and stayed because of its natural beauty and excellent opportunity for cattle ranching.
